What is Your Super Power?

What is Your Super Power by Kelley Grimes at Cultivating Peace and Joy

A hero stands up to the villain in themselves.

If you are looking for super heroes this week, you can find them in San Diego at the 48th annual Comic-Con International. This biggest and longest running comics and popular arts convention in the country starts today with a preview night and then runs all week. The mission of Comic-Con is to create awareness and appreciation for comics and related popular art forms and they have been very successful at their mission by drawing hundreds of thousands of people from across the country for their events.

My husband and daughter Zoey love to attend each year. A division of the board game company my husband works for called, Project Raygun, has a booth in the main exhibit hall and holds gameplay demonstrations in the gaming hall.

They both love the entertainment of the experience and have been attending for over twelve years. Although I deeply appreciate the enthusiasm of the event and incredible commitment of so many to their beloved super heroes, I have always given my ticket to those more keen on the big crowds and long lines much to my daughter’s friends’ delight.

I do love the idea of super heroes however, and super powers. When I look around at people I really admire, I see the embodiment of super powers, which inspires me to embrace my own powers for good.

I am especially inspired by the Dalai Lama’s superpowers of compassion and wisdom, Azim Khamisa’s superpower of forgiveness in the Restorative Justice work he started in response to the murder of his son, and the Hands of Peace participants’ superpowers of courage and hope, coming together to create the possibility of peace one day in the Middle East.

So what is your super power?

How do you demonstrate this super power in your daily life?

How do you inspire others by using your power for good?

For me, I believe my super power is love.

I demonstrate love when I enthusiastically greet people, recognize the best in them, believe in their incredible potential and the healing power of love, radiate out my compassion, celebrate those in my life who inspire me, speak my truth in love, and embrace all with an open heart and warm hug.

My darling host daughter from a few years ago through the Hands of Peace program told me that she felt she received love therapy staying with us. That is the most amazing use of my super power ever!

I totally agree with Wonder Woman who said, “It is about what you believe and I believe in love. Only love will truly save the world.”

So, I call on you to embrace your super power and radiate good into the world and continue to nurture peace in the world from the inside out.

Appreciating your questions and I will take them to the page tomorrow morning in my practice of Divine Dialogue Writing.
Your clarion call for me and all of us to demonstrate our loving superpowers is needed in our country and the world more than ever. Keep sounding that call, Kelley! xoxo

    • I love that you are going to explore the questions I posed in your Divine Dialogue Writing practice and that you spread your loving superpowers where ever you go Lore! I really appreciate your comment and look forward demonstrating our super powers for the good of all!

Yes I am embracing my power and i love this It is about what you believe and I believe in love. Only love will truly save the world.” xxx

  • My superpower is intuition! It took me many years to recognize it as such, but now that I know I use it ALL. THE. TIME.

    Thanks for the awesome post!

  • This is wonderful, Kelley! As someone who believes ‘peace is possible’, I also strive to spread love and peace everywhere, to everyone. I believe my super power is my sincere interest in other people and my compassion for all living things…people, animals and the natural world. If we acknowledge that all people want is to be seen and to be heard, feeling someone else ‘sees’ you, is a great gift. Too often in our busy lives people go unnoticed and they feel they don’t matter. In a world that is creating more isolation between people, the rose-coloured glasses optimist in me believes that maybe if enough of us continue to acknowledge others, we might create a more just, compassionate and peaceful world.

    • I believe that being present with others is one of the greatest gifts we can give and that seeing, hearing and acknowledging others is so important and has the power to heal. I am field instructor and mentor for first year Master of Social Work students and the first thing I teach them is that listening is a powerful tool and being able to reflect back feelings and what was shared is sometimes the most therapeutic thing we can do. Thank you for being part of creating a more just, compassionate and peaceful world Beverly and for your comment!

  • I believe my super power is kindness. This, too, I got from the Dalai Lama who teaches that we can all always be kind. P.S. Wow! Comics have sure come a long way since I used to buy Archie Comic Books!

    • I love that your super power is kindness Barb! That quote from the Dalai Lama about being unnecessarily kind because every one is fighting some battle has inspired me for years. Thank you so much for your comment!

Super sweet! We all have our own super powers ans connecting with this is amazing. Xoxo

    • I love being able to recognize other people’s super powers and celebrate them and the good they do in the world. Yesterday I led a self-nurturing workshop for the San Diego Domestic Violence Council and witnessed so many amazing super powers including courage, love, compassion and advocacy. May we all be empowered to share our super powers with the world and know that who we are makes a difference. Thank you Natasha!

I’m with you. I always tell my son that I’m a witch and have magical powers and he rolls his eyes and says “love?!” and I say yes, it’s the most powerful magic of all.
